Community

Holland Road Baptist Church is committed to serving its local community. We want to demonstrate Christ's love for a needy world.

As well as offering use of our facilities, we are a community of volunteers willing and able to serve those in the local area. The practical help we can offer could include anything from gardening, painting, decorating and litter picking, to counselling, prayer or befriending those in need.

Places we have worked closely with over the years and served include:

  • Davigdor Infant School and Somerhill Junior School
  • Wavertree House, the RNIB residential home
  • Lansworth House, a Hove YMCA Hostel

Many local groups have used our buildings and facilities, including:

  • Brunswick and Adelaide Neighbourhood Action Group
  • The Lansdowne Area Residents Association (LARA)
  • Sure Start

Links with city-wide community initiatives include:

  • Off the Fence – a charity working particularly with the homeless
  • Brighton Festival – we've provided volunteer help for the children's parade for the last few years
  • Brighton & Hove City Mission – particularly in providing food for the ‘basics bank', which distributes provision for those in need

Holland Road now have a ‘Befrienders' scheme which is geared to helping people in our community who are going through times of crises or rehabilitation after illness.

We are also in the process of initiating occasional community litter picks where the local residents are invited to join us and get to meet others in the neighbourhood.

The Friendship Centre offers an inexpensive weekly lunch on Fridays, with a short talk and a chance to meet new people for anyone who cares to drop in. This starts 11.45am. For more about what we can offer to those of senior age, click here.

Our groups for parents and toddlers have also proved very popular in the local community – Tadpoles on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Parents & Toddlers on Wednesday (which includes lunch).

If you are a community organization who would like to partner with us, or would like to find out how we can serve you, please contact Phillip on 01273 732111, or use the contact form.
