World mission is one of our key values at Holland Road

Our four main priorities are…

Existing relationships

We have long-term partnerships all around the world, including the Cutting family working with OM in France, and Mike and Nelia Leal working with OM in Brazil, and a network of churches in the Welsh Valleys.

We regularly visit Wales and come alongside local churches there who are reaching out to share God’s love with people living in one of the most disadvantaged areas in the UK. We recently sent Dan and Becky Rigg to the Rhondda to be part of a brand new church in Treorchy.

We also regularly visit Joy Academy and Bingham Academy, two schools in Addis Ababa, to encourage, offer training and support staff and families.

The poorest of the poor

We support a community of Dalits (‘untouchables’) in India, providing money and resources for a school. We also give to a local church through OM UK.  These are among the poorest people in the world, living in pipe villages and rejected by most of their society. But God is doing amazing things there, and we have been privileged to be a part of it both through visits and through long-distance partnership.

We also support the work of United Christian Fellowship in Sri Lanka, run by Brother Ranjan. UCF pioneers new churches, as well as providing free medical clinics for remote villages.

We support the work of Strong Hearts in Ethiopia through regular visits and financial gifts. Strong Hearts works in one of the poorest areas of Addis Ababa near the city dump.

We support the Summerton family working with YWAM in the area of climate change, something that affects the poorest of the poor disproportionately.

Global charities we support include Tearfund and BMS.

Where there is no church

We have partnerships in certain places in North Africa and the Horn of Africa where there is no church. We offer financial and prayer support for families who are seeking to live their lives out there and show God’s love to those around them.

Alongside all this we have a huge heart for Brighton, supporting organisations such as Brighton and Hove City Mission and Off the Fence (working with the homeless).  And of course, we have our Thrive internship programme, made up of those who have given a year of their lives to serve the church and the city as missionaries in Brighton and Hove.

We also support Middle East Media.

The persecuted church

Praying for Christians facing persecution and supporting them through organisations such as Open Doors.

How is it funded?

As a church we are committed to giving away at least 25% of our income to work beyond ourselves, including many of the people and places mentioned above. We have gift days twice a year, which are opportunities for our members to give above and beyond our normal giving. One of these is given over completely to world mission every May.

To find out more about world missions at Holland Road or how you can get involved, speak to any of the world missions team, led by Jen Cottingham and David Treneer, or contact us.

If you feel God is calling you into missions but finances might be an issue, we have a mission bursary fund available.
